Our favorite ad of 2010…so far…

And here’s the very cool behind the scenes vid of how the commercial was made by Craig Allen and Eric Kallman at Weiden + Kennedy. Bravo!

Introducing Artist and Activist Shailoh Phillips

We wanted to up the ante on our collaborations for Volume II of Poor But Sexy, so when we heard about the work that Netherlands based artist Shailoh Phillips was doing with art, feminism and social issues, we thought she’d be a perfect match for our featured performance artist Maria Flawia Litwin. Shailoh was game to meet Maria over video conference for a lively chat, the result of which was a fantastic interview for our ACTION! issue. More about Shailoh after the pic…

Introducing Jesse Albert

Things are buzzing here at PBS with final submissions flying in fast and furious! We’re finalizing Volume II in the weeks to come and will be releasing some juicy tidbits to tantalize you, but in the meantime and between time, we’d like to introduce to you to a few people who are doing great things in the city.

First up is mixed media artist Jesse Albert:

jesse-glasgowblog

Born deep in the woods of the Canadian shield, this T.O. artist’s work looks at the dense fabric of our visual environment, from billboards and graffiti to architecture and asphalt, as a means of understanding the dynamic culture of modern urban life.  Albert graduated from OCAD in 2010 with a BFA in Fine art and a minor in Art History, and has been showing his work in the galleries and on the streets of Toronto, New York, Florence and Berlin.  Armed with spraypaint, staples, paper and wheatpaste, and drawing from an eclectic rolodex of inspirations such as Norman Rockwell, Banksy, Swoon, Conor Harrington and Raymond Hains, Albert’s practice relentlessly probes the modern urban environment for the spirit of our era.
